Eric Pumphrey is an award-winning Black filmmaker and actor from Houston, Texas – now based in Los Angeles. His work sits at the intersection of culture, comedy and storytelling: specific enough to resonate and broad enough to travel.
In 2009, Eric co-founded Reckless Tortuga, a sketch comedy YouTube channel that grew to over one million subscribers and more than 250 million views, pioneering what independent comedy could look like in the digital era.
His transition into independent film carried that same energy. Award-winning short films screened at festivals around the world. Evelyn × Evelyn earned distribution through HBO. His broader body of work has reached audiences through STARZ, Peacock, Alaska Air and MTV.
Now, while actively developing television and film projects, Eric has returned to sketch comedy with a new body of work rooted in the Black American experience. The response has been immediate – over 9 million views across just 5 pieces of content.
